The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Sokoto state chapter Monday organized an inter-denominational praise and prayer for peace in Sokoto and Nigeria to mark the 2025 Easter celebration.
The event themed, “”He is Risen”, was held at the Sokoto Trade Fair Complex with church leaders, government officials, community leaders and several clergies including Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah in attendance.
Delivering his keynote address, Sokoto state CAN chairman, Rev. Dr. Moses Kayode James JP said the theme of this year’s, Easter, “He Is Risen”, echoes the heartbeat of our Christian faith.
Dr Kayode who noted that the resurrection of Jesus Christ was a divine proof that life can triumph over death, light overcome darkness, and peace can reign even in the midst of chaos, added that he is confident that Nigeria can ride above fears, despair and division.
“”In times like these, as our nation and our state wrestle with security challenges, economic uncertainties, and social unrest, we are reminded that Jesus did not remain in the grave—He rose! And because He rose, we too can rise above fear, despair, and division.
“”Today, here at the Trade Fair Complex in Old Airport, Sokoto, we gather not merely for celebration, but for spiritual renewal, unity, and intercession. We unite across denominations, tribes, and tongues to raise our voices in praise and lift our hands in prayer.
“”We pray for peace in our land. We pray for the safety and well-being of every citizen. We pray for wisdom for our leaders, healing for the brokenhearted, calling forth peace, righteousness, justice, and revival, and unity among our communities””.
While appealing to Christians to arise as a beacon of light, the State CAN Chairman, Dr. Kayode called on all denominations, tribes, and generations to join hands, ensure that their unity be louder than their differences and faith stronger than fears.
Talking to the government at all levels, Dr Kayode
urged them to hasten efforts to end the bloodshed, stop the insecurity in the land.
“”The blood is flowing everywhere in Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Sokoto, Edo, Borno, and several places. Our people are living in fear. As we are praying for peace, I equally call on the government to provide adequate security. Security is a necessity. It is our right! Nigerians are entitled to the right to live anywhere they find themselves.It is the duty of every responsible government to protect the lives and property of its citizens””. Rev. Dr. Kayode appealed.
