The newly inaugurated officials of Nasarawa chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have assured workers in the state of the implementation of the N30,000 new minimum wage in the state.
The newly elected state chairman of the NLC, Yusuf Sarki-Iya, gave the assurance yesterday in Lafia while briefing journalists shortly after the inaugural meeting of the newly elected state officials of the NLC.
The state NLC chairman stressed that the new leadership of the union in the state would equally fight to ensure that the four months salary arrears owed  workers by the Nasarawa State government is cleared without delay.
He said: “We will fight and reclaim the four months salary arrears the state government is owing workers. We will also continue the fight to ensure that Local Government system in Nasarawa State is reinvigorated and all the backlog of salary arrears ranging from 10 – 20 years is redeemed.”
The labour leader decried the situation where Local Government Areas in the state have become habitation for animals, a situation he vowed the new leadership of the state NLC will reverse in a shortest possible time.
“Our coming on board as officials of the Nasarawa State chapter of NLC is like a messiah for workers in the state. Workers’ interest shall be our paramount priority. We will fight through social dialogue with government to harness professional allowances meant for civil servants of the state,” Sarki-Iya maintained.
