Taraba State Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku is seeking Federal Government’s assistance to provide succour for  residents displaced by flood in the state.

The governor made the appeal on Sunday afternoon while inspecting the flooded areas in Jalingo, the state capital, with a promise to find immediate solution to the disaster.

The governor  who expressed frustration due to lack of support from the federal government for floods victims in the state, gave assurance that with or without the support of the Federal Government, the state government had already taken steps to provide relief materials to the affected areas to help cushion there pains.

“We need support from the federal government, although the support from federal government is not reaching us here.” He said.

He said though he learnt that the ministry of humanitarian support was in the state over the weekend sharing money which he is yet to ascertain.

“So you see, this assistance from federal government does not get to us. We get assistance from certain proxy but not from the government” He noted.

The governor, while sympathising with the victims regretted the huge loss caused by the flood and also urged them to stay away temporarily from the flood-prone areas.

“We will assist you with immediate supply of food, and we will also look at how we assist you quickly to go back to your houses.” And those that are too close to the river bank we may advise you to leave those places”.

He also disclosed that he would engage team of engineers to access the damage caused to the roads and bridges with a view to carrying out comprehensive and proper repairs.
