The Chief Information and Protocol Officer of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Mr. Abraham Habu Ekpo has said that the whistle blowing policy introduced by the university authority under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor Professor Sulieman Bala Mohammad has been yielding results as some students were arrested and handed over to the institution’s disciplinary Committee for investigations.
Mr Ekpo who made the assertion while briefing newsmen during the 2019/2020 Matriculation Ceremony recently, stated that since the introduction of the whistle blowing policy three students were arrested for unethical conducts for which they are under investigation, adding that the arrested students will be penalized adequately if found guilty.
” In every endeavor of life, once you come out with a new policy the desire is to get results. As I speak to you now the policy is on ground, it has been launched and the derivations from it has been gotten because the whistle have been sending signals to the university community.
“It will interest you to know that at the moment three students were arrested for unethical conducts, though the institution’s disciplinary Committee is yet to finish its investigations. However, with the launch of the whistle blowing policy everybody within this university Community is doing everything humanly possible to stay away from being found wanting” the University’s IPO stated.
On the update as regards the postponement of the University’s convocation ceremony earlier scheduled to hold last year as a result of the then outbreak of covid-19 pandemic Mr. Ekpo said,” Most of you here were aware that the university was planning to hold her convocation ceremony last year and was postponed indefinitely due to the then outbreak of covid-19 pandemic.
“As an institution we have to go back to the drawing board to look at where we were before now and where we can get to. The said covid-19 came in with a lot of accompanied issues major of which is the financial instabilities which we are facing at the moment. As I speak to you we are trying to re organize ourselves to enable us take care of our immediate needs or priorities, but I am sure in a short while the university management under the leadership of our workaholic Vice Chancellor Professor Sulieman Bala Mohammad will come out with a blueprints in the said aspect”.
Also answering a question on whether the University will be able to take care of the two sets of students been matriculated as regards compliance with covid-19 protocols he said,” I am sure that some of you were around when we resumed our amiable Vice Chancellor Professor Sulieman Bala Mohammad did a Press conference and he elaborated on the said issue with special emphasis on covid-19 protocols in all ramifications.
“We have divided each class into two to enable enough spacing. Aside that both students, staff and anybody entering the university community most wear his or her face mask, that is why we conspicuously placed signposts in all the University’s entrances with the face mask of the Vice Chancellor as a symbol of instruction signifying that it is mandatory for everyone to wear face mask while in the University’s premises.
” It will also interest you to know that our Health Facility can be compire with some General Hospitals as regards standard. We have an up to date man power and clean environment. Aside that we are into partnership with the Federal Medical Center, keffi and incase of any health outbreak that is beyond our health status we can call them for assistance. To further strengthen the University’s health system we made with the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Health and through his efforts we got directives from the Deputy Governor who happens to be the chairman Task force on covid-19 of the state and assured us of any immediate assistance we want from the state with special emphasis to covid-19 pandemic cases”
