In his quest to make Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) to be a world class center of academic excellence worthy of emulation by
their contemporaries, the vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed has said that management has
concluded arrangements for the take off of a compulsory presentation of mini inaugural lectures by their sabbatical lecturers.
The vice Chancellor who made this known while delivering his opening remarks during the university’s 25th inaugural lecture held in
Keffi, recently through the institute’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, said the proposed mini inaugural
lectures by officers on sabbatical will promote research works and teachings in NSUK.
In his words: “In the scheme of affairs in this university, we are going to introduce what is called empirical inaugural lectures by all
sabbatical lecturers. It is going to be like a replica of inaugural lecture in order to promote research works and teachings in this
university. The encouragement that the vice Chancellor has been receiving since he came on board is overwhelming”.
“The vice Chancellor had a meeting with medical experts who are going to put measures for the take off of our college of medicine. Next
year, faculties of Medicine and Engineering will commence in this university. So we need everybody’s support to make sure that the vice
Chancellor takes the university to the next level”.
He further stated that the 25th inaugural lecture of the university should be commended because most universities that were
established before NSUK are left behind as regards inaugural lecture presentations.
“Last week I was in Benue state university. The university was established before ours, but I was surprised that they were presenting
their twelfth inaugural lectures and we are presenting our twenty fifth in the series. So we need to thank God for that. We will continue
to promote it and to also encourage professors who are yet to present theirs” Professor Akinwumi said.
According to him, the 25th inaugural lecture tittled ‘The PS-SQUARED Model as an Integrative Approach to Learning” presented by
professor Lubasa N’ti Nseendi, professor of Language Education was the last for this year.
He congratulated Professor seedi for the bold steps he took and presented the inaugural lecture as the first forigner from NSUK in the
said aspect.
While delivering the inaugural lecture Professor Lubasa N’ti Nseendi said the genesis of the approach to his choice of topic was failure
adding that, while he was growing up he failed at five different stages before he succeeded.
“I got disappointed to the core with myself and determined deep within me not to give up. The insults and rebukes of my father
supported by my loving mother caused me to stubbornly prove to the whole world that I was not dull. Like David in the Bible (1samuel
30:6) ” the Democratic Republic of Congo-born professor said.
