Army arrests seven militia, recovers arms in Nasarawa

The Nigerian military said it has arrested no fewer than seven members of the Bassa militia terrorists who were allegedly planning to attack some Tiv villages in Ondori in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Coordinator of Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche, made availableto newsmenin Lafia.
He said the suspects, who dressed in red shirts were caught with dangerous weapons in a camp in the state. According to General Enenche, the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and as soon as it completes its investigation the suspects would be handed over to the police.

He said, “Troops of Sector 3 deployed in Ondori in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State acting on credible intelligence that a group of Bassa armed militia was planning to attack some Tiv villages over land disputes.

“Troops raided their camp located at Kpelebewa village in Rukubi area of Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and arrested seven of the Bassa militia while some escaped into the bush when they got information that we were coming.

“Items recovered from the suspects include one locally fabricated machine gun, six locally fabricated rifles, two locally fabricated cartridge guns, dane gun, two revolver pistols, two Cartridge firing pistols, 57 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 29 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and 22 cartridges of ammunition.”

He said the Military High Command congratulates the troops and requested that the general public should continue to provide the Armed Forces with credible information to facilitate its operations in the Country.
