The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has embarked on sensitization fair for residents of Plateau State, stressing that the apex bank is determine to work closely with the people, to enable them embrace policies and schemes of the Bank geared towards strengthening and promoting financial stability and economic growth.
At the 2 day fair held at the Eliel Center in Jos, headquarters of the state, the CBN mobilized members of the armed forces, security agencies, business men and women, youths, women groups, farmers, traders, artisans and other stakeholders and sensitized them on the need to embrace policies initiated by the bank.
The director corporate communication department of the apex bank Mr. Isaac Okorofor while speaking at the fair said the main objective of the fair is to create awareness about the CBN activities as it concerns economic development initiatives of the bank, with a view of explaining the opportunities available and how every citizen can take advantage of them.
The director who was represented by Mrs. Veronica Aqua, said the various initiatives by CBN are designed to revamp, reposition and re-engineer vital sectors of the economy.
“These initiatives include Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund (ACGSF), Micro Small and Medium Scale Enterprise (MSME), Micro Finance Policy, Commercial Agriculture Credit Scheme (CACS), electronic payment system, mobile banking, rights of consumers of financial services, financial inclusion, Biometric Verification Number (BVN) and pursuit of sound and stable financial system.” She said.
She said if such initiatives are well understood and the opportunities are adequately tapped the economy will be well reposition.
“The fair is therefore, planned to mobilize the low income but economically active people, especially, women, youths entrepreneurs, farmers and financial service providers to come together, interact and create synergy towards enhancing access to finance, increase productivity, generate employment, create wealth and engender sustainable growth.”
She said it is expected that at the end of the event participants would be in a good position to evaluate and take basic financial decisions that can enrich their entrepreneurial skills.
Speaking earlier the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3rd armoured division , Rukuba, Major General Nuhu Angbazo, commended CBN for organizing the programme, noting that it is a very important initiative that would help boost economic activities in the state.
The GOC then urged the participants to fully embrace the policies which are geared towards micro and macro economic development.
He then appealed to the apex bank to initiate policies that will make it more easier for rural dwellers to also have access to credit facilities.
