Gunmen Abduct 13 Farmers, 2 Pregnant Women in Taraba

At least 13 farmers with 2 pregnant women were reportedly abducted in their farms by unknown gunmen, who stormed their farms and whisked away with the victims on Saturday morning in Suntai, Bali local government area of Taraba state.

A local source who confirmed the incident to our correspondent says, the gunmen whom they believe to be Tiv militia, have been parading the area for a while now, waiting to take away with their target. He said even as the villagers informed the police about the threat posed by the militia, nothing was done about it.

“They were walking to their farms, 15 of them including the two pregnant women, the road leading to their farms are the same, so the walk together in a group. They have no idea that someone is sneaking behind them, before they realised they were surrounded” he said.

At the time of filing this report, no ransom was placed on the victim as the militias are yet to contact their families.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relation Officer, DSP David Misal, he said the incident has not yet been reported to the police.
