The Makurdi zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has, within the past one and a half years, recovered a total sum of N84 million and secured 20 convictions for various offenses bordering on corruption and other related issues.
Acting head of operations at the office, Mr Mohammed Umar Alkali, told newsmen today that 407 petitions and 21 cases currently in various courts for trial.
He also said within the period under review, cases of money doubling or ponzu scheme and cyber crimes popularly called yahoo, yahoo increased by the day in the country and noted that some parents not only feign ignorance but abet the offenses.
According to him, most students of tertiary institutions including graduates, corps members and even secondary school students get involved in the nefarious businesses
While commending the media for their support Alkali urged the practitioners to continue to help in the task of kicking corruption out of Nigeria.
He said the chairman of Otukpo local government and four other highly placed persons were being tried for various allegations and promised to give details to journalists at a later date.
