Nasarawa United beats Akwa United 2-0

Nasarawa United Football Club has defeated Akwa United football Club 2-0 in a Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) 2019 season encounter.

The ‘Solid Miners’ secured their second victory of the season at the Lafia Township Stadium on Monday.

The EYEWITNESS reports that the NPFL Match day 5 encounter was cagey throughout the first half as defences of both sides resisted flurry of attacks from attackers of both sides to break the deadlock.

Nasarawa United however managed to score in the second half through Mohammed Shammasu who received a pass from Adesola Johnson and broke free from two Akwa United defenders to score the first goal of the match for the home side in the 51st minute.

In the 92nd minute, Nasarawa United secured the win by scoring the second goal of the match through Morris Daddy who received a long pass from Sunusi Ibrahim to slot home from close range.

Speaking after the match, Abubakar Arikya, Nasarawa United Assistant Coach said the determination of the team as a whole to win the match through commitment and hsrdwork proved to be the motivating factor that secured the three points to the home side.

 “We told them that we don’t to lose or draw but win and we must win by putting in our very best. So when we came back our journey, we went back to the drawing board where we worked out better strategies for future games,” he said.
