Over 150 persons suffering from various eyes related ailments in Nasarawa State have received free eye surgery from the Governor Abdullahi Sule’s free medical outreach programme in the state.
This was even as over 2,000 eye lenses where equally provided to others having similar eyes ailments but require lenses instead of surgical procedure to tackle their predicaments.
The permanent secretary of the state ministry for health, Ishaku Abari, disclosed this at Nasarawa, the headquarters of Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state when declaring the free eye medical service of the governor for persons residing in the western senatorial district of the state.
According to the permanent secretary, “the free eye medical services is in line with one of the Governor Sule’s targets of achievement in his 100 days in office as governor of the state.”
“Nevertheless, similar exercise have been carried out in both the northern and western senatorial districts of the state where the exercise was held in Gudi and Doma towns of the aforementioned senatorial districts.”
The permanent secretary continued that during the free medical services in the aforementioned senatorial districts, 150 persons had surgical operations on their eyes, while 2,000 lenses where also given to those whose cases could not require surgical operation.
Consequently, he assured people of the western district of the free eye medical services team’s readiness to replicate the same gesture to them, adding that a mop up exercise would soon follow up with those who could not access the services across the three senatorial districts in the state.
Responding on behalf of chairmen of the five Local Government Areas of the western senatorial district, the acting chairman of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Umar Namama, pledged the commitments of officials of the council areas to the success of the the exercise.
