SEVEN SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS MEET THEIR WATERLOO

BY GODWIN AKOR,  MAKURDI
Following reports that armed robbers attacked a police check point along Lafia-Makurdi road, killed one Inspector Boniface Odeh and took away an AK47 rifle on June 4, men of Operation Zenda were detailed to trail the armed robbers terrorising commuters on that road.
Nemesis caught up with the robbers who were again  carrying out an operation on  the same road on June 12 at about 4.40 am when  the team of police officers swiftly moved to the scene and met the hoodlums dressed in military camouflage and police uniforms.
The robbers engaged  the police in a gun duel that lasted for about 20 minutes. In the process, seven of the armed robbers sustained various degrees of bullet wounds and were rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital where they eventually died.
Meanwhile,  their corpses have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.
Items recovered from the robbers include the missing AK47 rifle, one other AK47 rifle loaded with twenty-one rounds of live ammunition, one locally made pistol with two cartridges, two den guns, four  touch lights, four  machetes,  nine cell phones and  assorted charms.
Commenting on the success recorded by the command,   police public relations officer,  PPRO, DSP Serwuese Anene,  advised parents to warn their children to desist from their evil ways or face the full wrath of the law as the command would not leave any stone unturned in the fight against crime.
