Following the inability of the Taraba State Government to settle the bill of its over N290 million indebtedness to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), the electricity power provider has disconnected all power supplies to the Taraba State Government House and some other government agencies.

The Principal Manager, Corporate Communications of YEDC, Mr Kingsley Nkemneme, confirmed the disconnection, while adding that the accumulated debt have compelled the business unit of the company in Jalingo to disconnect electricity supply to Government House, deputy Governor’s office,  SSG’s office, State secretariat, specialist hospital, state University and water supply agency.

The YEDC, which classified the state government as one of “the biggest debtor” among the four northeast states in there franchise area, said only Yobe and Borno state are measuring up to expectation.

“Adamawa and Taraba governments are not prompt in paying their bills, only Yobe and Borno state are measuring up to expectation.” He said.

Mr. Kingsley added however that government only made part payment within the week, which led to the reconnection of the government house and the specialist hospital.

Sources at some of the agencies disconnected said they have been partially operating on generators.
