 The Christian Association of Nigeria, Nasarawa West zone, in Nasarawa state have unanimously endorsed the candidature of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer, Hon. David Ombugadu ahead of the March 2nd governorship election.

 CAN zonal chairman in Nasarawa West senatorial zone, Bishop Emmanuel Mallam Angbashim, while addressing newsmen in Keffi said that CAN constitution gave them the right to take independent decision, hence their resolve to endorse the PDP governorship candidate.

 According to him, the collective decision was reached during the meeting of delegates  from 5 local government areas and 7 development areas that made up Nasarawa west senatorial zone.

 “During the meeting the issue of endorsement came up, we put it to a vote where Labaran Maku of APGA got 105 votes while David Ombugadu of the PDP got 398 votes”.

 “We had wanted to transmit the result to the state headquarters of CAN, but the over 600 delegates insisted we take instant decision for them to take the message home,  so we put it to a voice vote and majority carried the day and we announced the result, hence our decision to endorse Ombugadu” he said.

However, statement signed by Bishop Joseph Masin, Nasarawa State CAN Chairman and made available to newsmen in Lafia on Monday, described the news of the endorsement as ruse.

 According to the Chairman “It has come to our notice that some people claiming to be officials of CAN in the state goes about extorting money from candidates under the pretence of endorsing and mobilising for them”

 “CAN is not a political party, therefore we cannot endorse any candidate, so I urged the public to disregard any endorsement rumour as it is a fake news aimed at causing disaffection” he said.
