“… as private member bill of Hon Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim passes first reading at the floor of the house…”

Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has passed into second reading A Bill for a Law to Make Provision for the Establishment of Nasarawa State Education Development Trust Fund and For Other Matters Connected Therewith.

The Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau announced the passage of the bill into second reading after Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, the Deputy Majority Leader presented the substance of the bill during the House proceedings today in Lafia.

The Speaker said that the bill, if passed into law would go a long way in improving on the standard of education in the state.

The Speaker committed the bill to the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology to work on it and report back to the House on 8th May, 2024.

He, then commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for initiating the bill towards bettering the standard of education in the state.

Earlier, Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, the Deputy Majority Leader of the House while giving substance of the bill said that the bill would provide quality education in the state.

“This bill is very important to the lives of our people and development of the education in the state.

” As education is the bed rock of every society and the bill will provide quality education in the state,” he said.

The Deputy Majority Leader called on his colleagues to support the bill to scale second reading.

In their contributions, Hon Peter Akwe, Hon Mohammed Isimbabi, Hon Musa Ibrahim, Hon Larry Ven Bawa, Hon Esson Mairiga, Hon. Yusuf Chunbaya, Hon Hudu A Hudu, Hon Hajarat Danyaro, Hon Kudu Jacob, Hon Sa’ad Ibrahim and Rt. Hon. Muhammad Oyanki all supported on the need for the bill to scale second reading.

They said that the bill if passed consistent training and retraining of teachers as well as provision of Infrastructure and other facilities in public schools in the State will be enhanced.

They also lauded Gov. Sule’s effort in ensuring quality education in the state.

The Deputy Majority Leader, Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, then Moved a motion for the bill to scale second reading which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon Luka Zhekaba.

The House unanimously passed the bill into second reading.

In a related development, the House also passed into first reading A Bill for a Law to Provide for Free Menstrual Hygiene Products for Girls in Nasarawa Public Schools by Nasarawa State Government and Other Related Matters Therewith sponsored by Hon Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim, member representing Nasarawa Central constituency.

The Speaker fixed May 7th, 2024 for the second reading of the bill.

The Speaker while commending Hon. Hajarat’s for sponsoring the bill, encouraged Honourable members to sponsor private member bills.

Hon Peter Akwe supported the need for the bill to scale first reading.

It would be reported that Hon. Danyaro’s bill was the first private member bill introduced in the 7th Assembly as the Speaker tasked members to initiate and come up with private member bills.
