Nasarawa NLC gets new leadership

Comrade Abdulahi Adeka, the chairman Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Nasarawa chapter, has lost his reelection bid to Comrade  Yusuf Sarki, in a keenly contested election in Lafia, Nasarawa state.

The election which held in Lafia, the state capital saw comrade Iya Yusuf Sarki of the civil service union and the auditor of the NLC in the state, defeating the incumbent chairman comrade Abdulahi Adeka who is from the medical and health workers union, to emerge winner.
Comrade Iya Sarki, pulled 194 votes to defeat  comrade Adeka who scored 184 votes, and  had promised to break new grounds for the NLC in the state. He said he will remain firm by standing for the rights of workers which he said include impetus to collective bargaining.

He added that the nagging issues like promotion, increment, welfare package and the percentage payments of salaries to workers at the third tier of government and the issues affecting civil servants will be his topmost priority.

Reacting of his victory comrade Sarki, said  his victory is a testimony that sincerity leads to success, he promised to work for the collective good of the workers of the state irrespective of their unions, promising to run a people centred administration will give credence to the welfare of the workers.

He thanked the workers for the confidence repose on him, saying he will never laid them down, on the order hand,  Comrade Adeka who also spoke before the election, said that his aspirations is not about winning at all cost.

Others who emerged victorious are : Comrade Lydia Maria Irepita and comrade Zainap Muhammad all ex officio belonging to Nigerian Union of Pensioners and PASSAN respectively and they were retuned unopposed, another person that was elected unopposed is Eyitono David Iboshi as treasurer belonging to NASU.

Comrade Ahmed Muhammed Naabi and comrade Salihu Adamu were elected Auditor and assistant respectively, the two highest votes amongst those who contested for the position of the vice chairman are comrade Jatau S Yohana, and Abdulahi Abubarkar.

The retuning officer, Mary Okezie administered the oath of office to all who were elected amidst celebration by their supporters.
