The Nigeria postal service,NIPOST, Plateau state has awarded and honour the best overall students who emerge winners of inter-secondary schools letter writing Competition.

The competition which was the fourth edition of its kind was organized by NIPOST in collaboration with Plateau state ministry of education.

In her welcoming address, the district postal Manager, Jos district, Mrs.Saratu J. Nggada said” today I feel very proud of the accomplishments our organization NIPOST in Plateau state has made in the area of improving the standard of education through letter writing in Plateau state, with the support and cooperation of the Plateau state government, ministry of education, zonal Directors, area Directors, principals, teachers,parents and other stakeholders.

“Even though this year some schools instead of creating a level playing ground for all students to participate, went on to do selection. We hope one day we will reach 100% where the junior students will be separated from the Senior.

” Everything we read stimulates our mind to think, and what we think determines what we desire and desires are the seedbed of our actions.” She added.

While congratulating the awardees Plateau state Governor, Simon Bako Lalong who was represented by the permanent secretary ministry of secondary education,Freeman Kum said prize giving and award spouse students to work harder.

He charged students to be good ambassadors of Plateau and Nigeria and to shun vices such as cultism, homosexualism among other things.

He also reiterates government commitment to upgrade the standard of education to greater heights,calling on all and sundry to identify priority as education is capital extensive and government alone cannot do it.

The representative of Post Master-General/CEO of NIPOST, District postal Manager, Abuja office, Mallam Idi Usman acknowledge the essence of the competition is to equip the students to know the rudiment of writing letter and reduce the habit abbreviation of letters.

He also said the aim is to catch young to inculcate the habit of excellence writing skills as the letter writing culture has declined.

He appreciates Plateau state Governor, Simon Bako Lalong for creating an enabling environment, noting that Plateau is the only state in the federation to held such competition in three consecutive years.

However, the desk officer, ministry of education Plateau state, Nuwana M.Kangrusa disclosed that the ministry are into collaboration with NIPOST since 2016 to inject knowledge for students through English language letter writing.

He affirmed the selection of those who emerge winners was done based on merit devoid of any sentiment or bias.

The 2019 NIPOST award of letter writing Competition saw Dakup Happiness Jonathan of Potter Memorial Secondary School, Kwalla Qua’an-Pan LGA emerge as overall best winner. While Hanatu Manzo of Bethany secondary school Barkin-Ladi, first runner up and Nandom Wajal of Nakam Memorial Secondary School Panyam became third position.

The award also cut across zonal level, Teachers category, Principals, Area Directorates and ministry of education respectively.
